In a world overflowing with mainstream sounds and heavily produced hits, there lies a rich tapestry of music that showcases voices waiting to be discovered. The Unique Voices Club is all about shining a light on these unique talents, offering a platform for independent artists who often go unheard on mainstream radio.

The Origin Story
The Unique Voices Club initially started as a Wednesday night college radio program for me, born out of the awe for some of the singers that graced my television during my semi-annual viewings of NBC's The Voice. Because shows where you're judged on how you sound rather than how you look will attract more distinctive voices, and a good chunk of the time, the artists didn't (and sometimes still don't) look like their voices. Besides the fact that no one in my inner circle knew most of the artists I showcased like Evan McKeel and Joanna Newsom, my show aimed to serve as a beacon for aspiring musicians. Forget trying to sound like someone out there who's already made it big. I'm encouraging singers to embrace their individuality and express their unique perspectives through music.
While I parked the show during the production of This is Not a Bill, my playwriting debut, and once I graduated Frettin' Friday (where I cover musical theatre songs on guitar) took over, there was one artist who sparked my brain during the pandemic. Her name was Bella DeNapoli, and out of my fangirling I created a reaction video to her unique blind audition that has about 30K views on YouTube right now (most within the first few weeks of me posting it). And more recently, my fangirling to Lucia Flores-Wiseman's haunting guitar ballad this past week has close to 2K views on TikTok, the most I've gotten on an artist (Mor Ilderton doesn't count) that I've shared from my dinky 250-follower account. That was when I realized...besides my OWN unique voice, why don't I bring this back to life? Unique voices are one of my most favorite things in the whole world, next to red velvet cake.
I lost the original recording of my radio show (aarrggh!!), but since I regularly add new artists to my playlists and I'm not sure who would listen to a podcast right now, I'm gonna create all new material in video form. So stay tuned. And happy listening.
